Black is back, and now it's moody and matte. Matte black has surged in popularity in recent years and is now more popular than ever. Matte black tile is an excellent choice for minimalistic spaces that want a touch of sophistication and or moodiness. Matte black tile is versatile beyond moody minimalism and works well for many different aesthetics. At Architessa, we're excited about this refined tile trend. Here, we're naming just a few of our tile collections, including a matte black ceramic, porcelain, or stone. We hope they grow on you.
Let's start with an Architessa porcelain tile that offers several options in color and finish: the Aristocrat 2.0 Collection. Available in seven colorways and four finishes, this tile blends durability and style. But, to stay on topic and on-trend, let's look specifically at the darkest color, Anthracite, available in a honed, polished, hammered, and 3D Deco.

The color Anthracite shown below from our Aristocrat 2.0 Collection has a range of sizes and mosaics available. One of our favorite finishes is the 3D Decor, keeping with the matte black tile trend. Note that some tiles, like the 12x24, are in stock with Architessa, while the other field sizes and colors are in special order and require a few weeks to receive.

Architessa's Aristocrat 2.0 Collection was used in the Anthracite color in 12x24 or 24x48 in the 3D Decor finish for this bathroom. The zero-entry shower floor paired with the floor-to-ceiling window provides a serene view and brings the outside in. Aristocrat 2.0 White is shown on the right side, giving subtle movement and texture to the face of the tub.

Our next matte black option, the Basalt Collection, is just erupting with a range of options for your next project. This natural stone product, made of volcanic rock, is available in large format field tiles like 16"x16" or 12"x24" and mosaics like a 1" or 3" hexagon. In this bathroom setting, contrast is key. The white tile looks clean and bright against the matte black floor and shower door frame. The dark grout ties the space together. The warm wood tones on the ceiling and vanity keep the space from feeling cold.
Like the worn black cobble-stoned streets of Florence, Italy, our Florence Collection features the on-trend matte black traditionally. Because timeless patterns are stenciled onto a modern cement material, it has become a popular tile option that fits well into several design styles.
Architessa's Florence Collection, cement tile with natural pigment

To see what our clients have done with cement tile, visit the Projects tab of our Houzz page. With cement tile featured on multiple projects on our Houzz Project page, it's no secret that cement tile is also on trend. This matte black painted cement tile knocks out two trends with one blow. If you weren't aware of the cement tile craze, then you must not be fixed to your TV like the rest of us watching Chip and Joanna on Fixer Upper. Shiplap anyone? Architessa's Legend Collection, in the Kuba pattern, Nero Marquina and Calacatta Tia tumbled marble.
From art to design, landscape to geometry - Neotropical is the concept with a contemporary and "carioca" look. A particular path is designed on chromatic compositions. Black and white tones of small stones found on Portuguese boardwalks were translated into close-ups. The pure geometry of the square or sinuosity of the mosaic alters the scale and expands the beauty of famous "Cariocas" sidewalks.
BOLTON features an 8x8 Neotropical Black Deco that can be used to match the field tile or as the solo tile star of your project.
